A Discord bot with memory, manners and a trust score: how Millicent decides when to talk
An AI sidekick for Discord servers with personality, memory and answers drawn only from your docs, for community owners and mods.
Visit heymillicent.comEvery Discord server owner knows the two failure modes of a bot. One answers everything, floods the channel and gets muted. The other answers nothing until someone types a command, so the server feels empty at 2 a.m. when a new member asks where the rules are. Neither one feels like a member of the community.
Millicent is our attempt at a third option: a bot that decides when to speak, remembers people, and is always honest that it is an AI.
What is Millicent?
Millicent is an AI sidekick with a personality and a memory. The site's tagline is "Started as a Discord bot. Grew a soul." It is live today in Discord, where she welcomes people, remembers members and storylines, answers support questions from your own docs, and backs up your moderators. Desktop and coding modes are in development. She is made by LIKE A KING INC., a small New York software studio.
What problem does it solve?
Community servers need three things at once: answers to repeated questions, a sense of life in the room, and moderation help. Generic bots do one of these. Millicent is built to handle all three while staying inside rules the server owner controls.
How does it work?
Four reply tiers. She decides like a person would:
- Urgent: someone is stuck, banned or lost. She always answers, fast.
- Support: a real question. She answers from your docs, and only your docs.
- Casual: banter. She joins now and then, like a real member.
- Silent: muted channels and private talk. She stays out.
Docs-only support answers. For support questions she replies with the answer and the doc it came from. If the answer is not in your documents, she says so and can ping your staff.
Memory. She remembers members she talks with, ongoing storylines and recent context. Memories fade after 90 days by default. Anyone can say "Millicent, forget me," and admins can browse, export or delete everything from the dashboard.
Personality and mood. Moods include sunny, dry, sassy, sleepy, fired-up and drama queen, on a dial or on a schedule. There is a trust-points system: for example, the site's roast desk lists "-50" for taking a shot at her and "-200" for trying to jailbreak her.
Safety rails. The site says she strips keys, passwords and internal system names from every message. When someone seems to be struggling, she points them to human staff and, in the US, to 988. She is not an AI companion or a therapist, and she says she is an AI whenever asked. Server admins cannot switch that off, and her messages carry an AI tag.
Models. The hosted plan includes free AI models. You can instead plug in your own OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini or any OpenAI-compatible key, and then that provider bills you directly.
Setup. Five steps, no code: sign in, choose Rent or Buy, choose where she lives (Discord today), pick channels and roles, choose her soul (Friendly, Sassy, Calm or your own). Self-hosters get a one-line Docker install prefilled with a license key.
Who is it for?
Discord server owners, community managers and mods who want help with support, welcomes and moderation and want a personality rather than a command list.
How much does it cost?
Launch pricing, in USD, as stated on the site:
- Rent: $19 a month per server. Hosted on our servers, with the full dashboard and free AI models included.
- Basic source: $49 once. Self-host the core bot, configured with a simple
.envfile, with community support. - Pro source: $149 once. Self-host with the personality file and mood engine, 12 months of updates and a license key with an offline grace period.
- Done-for-you setup: $199 once. We write her personality and knowledge from your docs and set her up in your server.
There is a 14-day money-back guarantee, and rent can be canceled at any time. Note that "source" means a self-hosted license, not an open-source release.
How is it different from the obvious alternatives?
Moderation and utility bots are excellent at roles, logging and commands and are often free. Millicent does not replace them for every task. General AI chatbots in Discord answer from broad knowledge. Millicent answers support questions only from your documents, which reduces confident wrong answers. Doing nothing and relying on volunteers is the honest baseline, and she is meant to back up your mods, not replace them.
What it can't do yet
- Desktop sidekick and coding-buddy modes are in development. An "inside AI apps" connector via MCP is only planned.
- Millicent is for Discord today. She is not a human, a companion app or a therapist.
- Support answers are only as good as the docs you give her.
- The self-host tiers are paid licenses, not open source.
- Discord is a trademark of Discord Inc. and Millicent is not affiliated with it.
What's next?
The roadmap on the site: a desktop sidekick that finds, drafts and organizes things and asks before anything she cannot undo, a coding buddy that sits beside Claude Code, Cursor or Reges Code, and a way to bring her into other AI assistants through MCP. Early access is open for desktop and coding modes.
The business behind it
Discord servers are a large distribution surface for community products. Our model is a hosted subscription per server, one-time self-host licenses, and a done-for-you setup fee. Distribution is the server itself: members meet the bot where they already are. The defensible parts we aim for are the memory and manners layer, the docs-only answer policy and the trust and safety rules. These are plans and design choices, not traction. We are not citing user counts or revenue because we have no verified figures to share.
